Accented with rattan trim, this small Asam scalloped bowl and plate set adds a touch of culture to any decor.
Handcrafted by the artisans of Sosak, the pottery technique is a time-honored tradition handed down from mother to daughter for the past 500 years. Men in the village collect the local clay and volcanic sand while the women shape and mold the pieces by hand using only the most rudimentary of tools, sticks, and paddles. The pieces are low-fired in open rice hulls and coconut husk fires, then embellished with palms oil and tamarind for a classic wood-like finish.
According to legend, the Goddess Deui Anjani taught the indigenous people of Lombak Island the secrets involved in turning earth and clay into vessels. The vessels thus created were used to store grains and cook food, allowing the culture to flourish.
The handcrafted nature of this product will produce slight variations in color, form and sizing. All measurements are approximate.
When using for food storage, the use of a liner is highly recommended.
