Woven in the central Iranian provinces of Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari, these are among the most prized Persian rugs. The luxurious wool of the region and the expert craftsmanship of the rug weavers have made these rugs famous throughout the world. The Bakhtiari tribe, from which these rugs get their name, is one of the most ancient and respected Persian tribes. Today there are nearly 200 villages in the Char Mahal area, each producing unique designs.
Bakhtiari patterns tend to be mostly geometric, sometimes semi-geometric, but seldom curvilinear. The designs are usually very crowded and the colors are rich and bright. The most common Bakhtiari design is a paneled garden design consisting of square, rectangular, diamond or hexagon compartments filled with a floral motif such as a willow tree, cypress tree, bush, or grapevine. This charming rug features an ivory background and navy border. With accents of tangerine, brown, green, light brown, coral and light blue, this rug really ties a room together.
