Chinese bronze ware dates back nearly 5,000 years. Bronze vessels were commonly used in the Shang and Chou dynasties (1800 BC - 249 BC) by aristocrats in daily life and ancestral rituals. In the performance of rituals, different types and numbers of bronze vessels were employed for food, wine, water, or musical vessels. These bronze ritual vessels were often cast with extraordinary kinds of engraved decoration and inscriptions to record important events at that time.
