The rug designs are similar in layout, but each design has special characteristics that distinguish it. This is a major industry in the city of Hamadan and the only source of income for thousands of families. Hamadan's rugs are constructed to last a long time. The rug owes its durability to the luxurious looking, yet rugged pile, hand-spun from the wool of hardy sheep raised at high mountain altitudes and cool climate.
