The most important religious and historic places in the area are Sheikh Ishaaq's Tomb and Maneeq's grave. Heriz rugs are hand-woven by Azerbaijan Turkish inhabitants of the city. They are famous among collectors because of their soft earth-tone colors and geometric pattern. While no two Heriz carpets are identical, they generally tend to have a recognizable similarity. They are characterized by highly individual rectangular medallions decorated with rich arabesques, palmettes and rosettes. The corners of the main field often feature elegant details. The wool of these impeccable rugs is always skillfully processed and dyed. Due to their medium to high pile Heriz rugs are extremely durable, making them ideal for areas of high traffic.
