One of the most unique forms of pottery, horse hair pottery combines not only the skill of the artist but also the unpredictable forces of nature.
Starting with a molded pot, vase, or animal shape, the artist penetrates the pot with carbon from burning horse hair(mane or tail). The horse hair is applied by hand and as it is consumed by fire, it twists and turns, producing a unique pattern never to be duplicated again.
This piece is hand made by Navajo artist Thomas Vail. Every piece is signed by the maker.
The handcrafted nature of this product will produce slight variations in color, form, and sizing. All measurements are approximate.
