This artsy necklace features tiny garnet beads inlaid into sterling silver. The aqua tones of an ancient Roman glass fragment lend balance to the summer white of the pearls and berry brightness of the red garnets. The three silver tiles are etched with ancient mystical symbols: a moon, spiral, and water, all traditionally associated with women.
Set in sterling silver, this piece evokes the tiny tesserae of art mosaics, whose tiles adorned the splendid villas and temples of the ancient world. The shiny silver chain is 18 inches long.
This iridescent blue glass comes from an archaeological dig in Israel, found in the splendid ruins where ancient Roman cities once stood. The glass is crushed and mixed with a resin to give it a rough texture, then inlaid like a paste, much the same way ancient mosaics were made. The result is quite a conversation piece. Each piece includes a story card about Roman glass.
Please do not get your jewelry wet. Treat it as if it were 2,000 years old. Avoid showering or swimming with your jewelry on, and don't use hairspray near it. It's recommended that you not even touch it frequently -- oils from your hands may alter the glass color and remove its luster. Clean the silver with a cloth, but try not to rub the ancient glass.
