Imported from Israel
Our Price: $119.99 $200.00 New
A delicate round piece of Roman glass is the centerpiece in this fabulous handmade necklace.
Angie Olami Inc. is an American design business, working with independent studios and family groups in three countries. For this limited edition necklace, she personally selected the finest gemstones and pearls in New York and then designed this necklace around the simple and elegant thin piece of glass. The 2-mm heishi and turquoise beads are hard to find in such vibrant tones and the diamond shaped pearls are cultured to grow in that unique shape. The necklace is a striking combination of color, shape, and texture. This piece is deliberately thin, allowing the glass to pick up hues from whatever is around it. The pearls have a rich peach/cream nacre that complements the luster of the Roman glass. The Roman glass is hand-cut in a small studio near Haifa, Israel. Its eight members include Israelis, Bedouin women, Russian emigres - a small, multicultural community that has held together through the strife around them.
A story card explains how color accumulates in Roman glass. The glass is regularly unearthed by archaeologists sifting through the remains of Roman Empire cities. Those shards without museum value may be bought by artisans.
When you purchase authentic handmade jewelry from Worldstock , you not only acquire a unique treasure but also help support a centuries old artisan tradition.
The handcrafted nature of this product will produce slight variations in color, form, and sizing. All measurements are approximate. Please do not get your jewelry wet. Treat it as if it were 2,000 years old. Avoid rubbing the glass, as oils from your hands may alter its color and remove its luster. Clean the silver with a cloth, but try not to rub the ancient glass.
