| Member Info ![]() Mark Maupin Contact info: tontoe/wn.com.au Male -- Single Mineworker, South Hedland, Western Australia I moved from Perth up to Port Hedland to live about 15 years ago (1990) because I was fed up with city life and all the crap that goes with it. It gets very hot here in the summer with temperatures reaching over 50C on occasion but the winter days are usually in the mid to high 20s. The countryside can be harsh but it is beautiful and the fishing can be absolutely fantastic at times. I don't think I could ever live in a city again and I'll probably move to Northern Queensland in a few years as it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. Homepage: Mark's Photo Gallery Interests: I'm interested in photography, fishing and travelling around Australia (particularly the North) all of which complement each other nicely. Dislikes: City Life, it sucks!.... Arrogant people, I believe there's nothing worse, unless it's petty bureaucracy and the small minded people who seem to thrive on it.... Cigarette smoke in enclosed places. Travel Gear: Camera, fishing tackle. Favorite trip so far: A recent trip I took with one of my sons. We drove from Port Hedland in WA across to Cooktown in Qld, a round trip that took us nearly 13,000 klm's through some truly incredible countryside. Dream trip: Around the world slowly. "One Powerball and I'm out of here!" Best nightlife: Dinner parties. Romantic spot: Moonlit walks on a tropical beach. Notable food: Love seafood! Cool daytrips around South Hedland, Western Australia: Cape Keraudaren, it's about 150 or so kilometres away or "Just up the road" as we say out here in the bush. Dangerous travel experience: While camping in Southern N.S.W. a friend and I thought we were going to be attacked by what sounded like a very angry wild pig which was doing a lot of screaming and squealing throughout the night very close to where we had pitched our tents. We felt pretty silly the following morning when we discovered it had been a Koala. Apparently, during the breeding season they make quite a noise. | | Contributions Photo and Journal Page Contributions: Some of the photographs I have taken on various trips around the country. Added on 2006-04-22, modified on 2006-05-02 A recent roadtrip I took down the rail access line between Port Hedland and Newman. Halfway along the line we turned down a small dirt road that took us through the desert and some very remote countryside before ending up at the small outback town of Marble Bar, reputed to be Australia's hottest town.
