MSc in politics from Southampton University, England 1988. I prepare a PhD thesis on "Humanitarian Intervention and US Foreign Policy". Amateur photographer with plenty of photo-exibitions and prizes. Writer, poet, translator (English/ French/ Arabic. These days I am working on Roland Barthes "La chambre claire: notes sur la photographie" (translation from French to Arabic) I have loads of films which tell the story of my hometown and many other places where people struggle to get life out of stone. I live in a beautiful town that is 2500 years old. Vestiges, museums, interesting places are witnesses of this dream. Waalking in its roads is like getting inside History's belly. I write in newspapers about cultural stuff: books, painting exhibitions; well art in general. Interests: photography / travel / museums/ people/ Literature / theory of international politics Dislikes: greed / pessimism Travel Gear: Camera/ tripod/ spare films & batteries/pen & paper/ loads of sympathy and philosophy in order to get closer to people Favorite trip so far: To the desert. It is the best place to be able to get to. Paris (cultural capital of the world) would look like an empty tin besides the sandy waves and the mystic sunsets. A dream that hasn't come true yet. + In Constantine, the best things to visit are in the open: suspended bridges, Cirta Museum (the richest in Africa),the Old Town (Souika- 16-17th century, the universities, natural wild places. Dream trip: India: the Gange river. People walking, smiling, bathing, living like inside a legend. One day I'll go into the legend and as the late Malek Haddad (a writer from Constantine) once said: and the legend will open its arms to welcome me. Best nightlife: Cosy places: cafés, dancing night clubs in hotels & restaurants Romantic spot: Djebel El Ouahch: a wild forest with many lakes full of birds and natural scents. Le Boulevard de l'Abime: a road high on the rock that gives on the river, 175 metres high. Suburbs: calm places for meditation and dialogue. Notable food: Couscous / Tchakhtchoukha/ Tlitli / Makroud / Boussou / Ghouribiya / Chbah Essefra / Cool daytrips around Constantine - Algeria: Bounouara (25kms): trip to the dawn of history and the beginning of man. Dolmens. Khroub (18kms): pyramid -tomb- of Massinissa the local king before the Roman invasion. Tiddis (30kms): the Numidian town before the edification of Cirta (Constantine). Vestiges in a beautiful landscape. Skikda (85kms): seaside, colonial style town with a lovely village, a fishermen's haven called Stora. Annaba (156kms)Roman Hippone: seaside, cathedral of Saint Augustine. El Kantara (150kms):the limit between the North and the South (the desert), mountain & river. Well, in brief, Constantine is in the middle of all the interesting places and the big towns of the eastern part of Algeria. The third important city. Dangerous travel experience: Getting into places before knowing the people. Taking photos of people without a smile. Do not look serious and firm when taking photos. Smile to people, try to talk, don't run away after having taken a photo. Ask always those who are around because they will show you more than what you expect. | | Contributions Photo and Journal Page Contributions: Beautiful like a dream, this town looks like a godess made of fire.
