Avignon, Gothic in the Fog I was only in Avignon briefly, having arrived there from the France/Spain border city Portbou. There was a heavy bank of fog in the morning when I took these photos which gives it a gothic feel. Added on 2002-09-23, modified on 2002-10-07

Windansea, La Jolla, California on a Sunday Afternoon Windansea is a classic San Diego surf break, my personal favorite not just for the good surf and beach but also for the history. Windansea is known for a sometimes dangerous shorebreak and a narrow boarding area with excellent surf. As the spot became popular this combination of great surf in a small area has given rise to a notorious locals-only attitude in the water but it's friendly on the beach. Sociologist and famous author Tom Wolfe (Kool-Aid Acid Test, the Right Stuff, Bonfire of the Vanities) wrote about the culture around Windansea in the Pumphouse Gang. NYC - East Village The East Village in Manhattan, NYC has a diversity of great stores and historic sights. Usually I start at 14th and 3rd ave. (subway station) and make the rounds until I hit NoHo (North of Houston and Soho). I have to give special mention to the Village Cheese Shop which has some of the best cheese prices/selection. Check the 2 fridges in front of the store for outstanding deals (like a huge wedge of imported brie for $1.25). These photos are from an hour of walking down 3rd Avenue.
