My main claim to fame is my time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kyrgyzstan. The experience and the people that I met affected me so much that, with the help of my family, we started Kyrgyzstan Projects. We have set up a Heifer Project like program of providing loaned heifers to families in need. We have raised money to bring 3 of my former students to the US to study for one year. And we are currently assisting 7 of my former students attend the best universities in Kyrgyzstan. It is meaningful work and it helps many deserving students. I am currently living in MS working on my masters degree and teaching Spanish at a high school in the Delta. It is tough work and it makes me even more anxious to get back to my beloved country, Kyrgyzstan.

Interests:
Developing countries

Dislikes:
The war!

Travel Gear:
Too much!

Favorite trip so far:
Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. My sister and I travelled to Turkey and spent 2 weeks there. It was amazing. We also travelled to India together and that was a totally different experience and one of the toughest countries I've ever been to, but I came out of it a better person for sure!

Dream trip:
Destination: Machu Picchu, Peru

Notable food:
Vishnu Restaurant in San Jose, Costa Rica Yusa in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (Turkish food)

Dangerous travel experience:
In India, my sister and I were travelling by bus from Jodhpur to Jaipur. It was off season for tourists and we were the only foreigners on the bus, let alone the only females travelling alone! We pulled up to the bus station and all of a sudden a swarm of men was chasing the bus and pointing to us screaming. We were terrified that they were out to get us because we were Americans (something I am unfortunately very conscious about when I travel). We asked a man on the bus what was going on and he assured us that they were just excited about the potential for an increased taxi fare possible with tourists. We were much relieved and ended up choosing an excellent taxi driver who also served as our tour guide in Jaipur for 2 days!
