| Member Info Val McMullen Contact info: val AT irishinterests.com 37 -- Female -- Married Computer Programmer, Roland My husband and I are computer programmers and work together for a small computer firm. As a side, I have a virtual garage sale on Ebay as well as sell Irish Perfumes on my web site, listed below. As well as 3 kids, so needless to say, my life is busy. Homepage: Irish Interests.com Interests: Definitely Ireland, but we are also of Scottish heritage. My husband has played bagpipes for about 3 years now and is getting pretty good! I love anything Celtic! I have a huge collection of Irish music. My favorites are... Clannad, Loreena McKennitt, Leahy, Chieftains, Lord of the Dance, Enya. Lately I've discovered Sarah Brightman, but that's mostly Italian... it's still cool tho! Dislikes: Purchasing a tape at an Irish Pound Store expecting Irish music and finding "In the Ghetto" and American songs. Bummer! I can get that at home! Travel Gear: at least 19 rolls of film! And an extra camera battery! Bunratty historical town does not carry them! Favorite trip so far: Ireland! Five years ago, we took a wonderful vacation to Ireland and spent 10 great days on the west coast of Clare and various points nearby. I then spent 3 months putting my Creative Memory album together to relive the vacation. It weighs 30 lbs. My husband says it takes longer to look through the album than it did to go. We took the two children at the time with us as well as my mother-in-law (who lives with us). In Ireland, we searched for traditional music at any pub and finally found a pub with music. It was James Taylor & Elvis Presley music, however. We were looking for more of a reel or ballad. Oh well. It gives us an excuse to go back someday! We hope to next summer and explore around Dublin instead. Although I would love to find Cregg Castle again or walk up to the Moher cliffs again. Dream trip: My ideal trip would be to spend it purchasing a fabulous or heck any vacation home in Ireland and spending 5 months getting it ready for use. Then come back yearly and enjoy it for each summer. Best nightlife: Unfortunately, it's probably reading a good book while my husband watches tv. Romantic spot: In Ireland, it's the cliff drive around Kilkee in County Clare. Wow! In my country, it's probably my porch. Notable food: I ate so much potato soup and brown bread in Ireland! It is the best! I've tried to recreate them both here at home, and frankly, I've been disappointed. Cool daytrips around Roland: Living History Farms in Des Moines, Iowa. Taking the kids there for trick or treating at Halloween is great! They have storytellers and roast marshmallows. Such a spooky time! And wagon rides! Dangerous travel experience: Trying to find a bathroom for my sobbing 3 year old while you're waiting for customs in New York. I had to tell off a guard to get through to the restrooms. Then missing your flight home. | | Contributions Photo and Journal Page Contributions: We visited various places on the western side of Ireland. Mostly County Clare, but spent a day near & in Galway as well as swinging south to County Cork. Had to check out 'Barney' Castle, as my 3 year old dubbed it.
