| Member Info Bob Beer Contact info: sazji |At| yahoo.com 44 -- Male -- Single Music, Translation, Istanbul, Turkey I'm an American of part-Greek heritage living and learning music in Istanbul. The other side of my life is Botany and Gardening. I like to stay in a place for a while (Came to Istanbul for 6 months and now it's been 3 years...) and really know it, the people, the way of life. Interests: Nature and musical cultures of Greece, Turkey and beyond. Languages. Dislikes: Border crossings. Ultranationalism. $100 tourist visas. Travel Gear: Depends on where I'm going but most important to me are a good pair of walking shoes. Ecefuryl (intestinal disinfectant) if going to some rural areas of Turkey (or if you plan to eat street food indiscriminately). Favorite trip so far: Black Sea region of Turkey. Amazingly beautiful scenery, wonderful people, especially the farther you get off the beaten track. Dream trip: Eastern Turkey if the U.S. doesn't get it blown up in the next few weeks. South India is another goal. Best nightlife: Depends on what you're into. Romantic spot: Wonderful fish restaurant up in Anadolu Fener. Beşinci Kat restaurant/bar near Taksim, especially in summer. Notable food: Istanbul: something for everybody here but make sure you try Boza and Sahlep if you come in the winter. Black Sea -- Muhlama, a melted cheese, butter and cornmeal dish you eat with bread as you listen to your arteries crackling away. Cool daytrips around Istanbul, Turkey: Princes' Islands, Mudanya/Bursa, Anadolu Kavak Dangerous travel experience: None really. Don't take any invitations by total strangers acting too friendly out of the blue to take you on a "tour" or to a club. Don't take Istanbul transvestites lightly. :) | | Contributions Photo and Journal Page Contributions: Some scenes and wild plants found blooming on the island of Naxos and in Macedonia.
