Colonia del Sacramento
Here are some recent pictures from Colonia, Uruguay, which is across the Rio del Plata from Buenos Aires. Colonia is a UNESCO World Heritage site. I took the Buquebus ferry Eladia Isabel. It was a nice trip! (chrisstjohn)
Montevideo
Some photos from Montevideo. I was not sure of some of the landmark names, feel free to send me an email if you know the names. Montevideo is an interesting city for a few days although I mainly just saw the old center part, there are some other areas I did not see. It is extremely cheap for both lodging and food. The old city is nice and there is a narrow strip closer to the water from the old city to Estacia del Puerto which has a lot off good barbecue places. However, beware of the area near the water/port walking from the historic area just past Estancia Del Puerto. It is a bad area at any time of the day/night--I recommend avoiding it. The hidden gun routine and the staggering-wasted-guy-chasing-after-you routine are quite popular scare tactics. These robber-wannabes seemed to be drunk and pathetic kids but use caution. Punta Del Este
Some photos from a recent trip to Punta Del Este, Uruguay. This is a primary retreat for Argentines escaping the summer heat Jan-Mar. The beach was nice, the people were friendly and there was plenty either on the peninsula or in the club/bar area of La Barra about 2km away. I added some photos from Mint which is a Buenos Aires club that opens here during the high season. For the menu photos, the exchange rate was around 25 Uruguayan pesos to $1, the menu prices are in Uruguayan pesos. (chrisstjohn)
