A day trip to the Island of Bute
The Island of Bute is situated on the River Clyde Estuary. At one time it was a major holiday destination for my fellow Glaswegians during the Glasgow Fair. Setting out from Wemyss Bay Terminal which has'nt changed from the hey days of the forties and fifties I can picture the packed steam trains arriving at the station and the passengers heading down the ramp to board the ferry.
Arriving at Rothesay the main destination for the holiday makers back then nothing has really changed.
Heading out onto the small Island roads the scenery is beautiful and peaceful. My wife and I took the journey over to the island on a nice autumn day in September 2004. (babski)

A trip to Eilean Donan and the Island of Skye
On a cool crisp morning on October 20th we headed out to see Eilean Donan Castle and the Island of Skye. A journey that would end up being a fifteen hour round trip but worth every minute. Our fist stop was in Glencoe and with a smattering of snow on the hills made for lovely viewing.
We headed up to Spean Bridge were we stopped for breakfast.
The onto Glen Mor and the Commando Monument erected in memory of the men who trained there during world war 2. We then travelled on up to Glen Garry and onto Glen Shiel were another stop was made. The weather was excellent considering it had rained on all the days previous that week. It was just the luck of the draw I guess. Then it was on to Eilean Donan Castle set in the splendor of Loch Duich. Part of the opening scenes from the movie ' Highlander ' were filmed here and what a spectacular background it made. We then moved off and headed for Skye over the Skye Bridge with the Tolls each way which were eventually scrapped two months later. We set out for Portree a nice little fishing port on the Island. By the time we arrived almost all the shops were closed and we ended up at the little fish & chip shop on the harbour front. We stayed in Portree for about an hour and then started back on the journey home to Glasgow. The scenery and the weather made for another great day in the Highlands. (babski)

Stratford-upon-Avon is a town on the river Avon in south of Warwickshire, England, and it is known worldwide as the birthplace of William Shakespeare.
Shakespeare's birthplace stands on Henley street and it has a very nice garden.
Also within the town is Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare was baptised and is buried.
