    Windansea is a classic San Diego surf break, my personal favorite not just for the good surf and beach but also for the history. Windansea is known for a sometimes dangerous shorebreak and a narrow boarding area with excellent surf. As the spot became popular this combination of great surf in a small area has given rise to a notorious locals-only attitude in the water but it's friendly on the beach. Sociologist and famous author Tom Wolfe (Kool-Aid Acid Test, the Right Stuff, Bonfire of the Vanities) wrote about the culture around Windansea in the Pumphouse Gang.
