The Island of Bute is situated on the River Clyde Estuary. At one time it was a major holiday destination for my fellow Glaswegians during the Glasgow Fair. Setting out from Wemyss Bay Terminal which has'nt changed from the hey days of the forties and fifties I can picture the packed steam trains arriving at the station and the passengers heading down the ramp to board the ferry.
Arriving at Rothesay the main destination for the holiday makers back then nothing has really changed.
Heading out onto the small Island roads the scenery is beautiful and peaceful. My wife and I took the journey over to the island on a nice autumn day in September 2004.
